Tottenham v West Brom Live

April 21st, 2011 by Henry 1 comment »

Having experienced Champions League football and seen some of the world’s finest in the capital, Spurs fans will be hoping for the same again next season. However, qualification for Europe’s premier competition requires finishing in the top 4. Without doubt, Tottenham have enough quality and depth in their squad to be aiming for the Champions League qualifying positions. The problem for them has been the distraction of Champions League football, which has seen them rotate their side a lot. It is no surprise that Tottenham have lost ground on the top of the premier league mainly during the Champions League weeks. They have let leads slip away, conceded poor goals and even lost games you would not expect them to. Now, having been eliminated from the competition, they can now concentrate fully on the fight for 4th place. However, West Bromwich Albion is now a very different opposition under Roy Hodgson. Tottenham v West Brom will see two of the oldest managers in the league face each other.

Unlike during his time at Liverpool, Roy Hodgson is less defensive at West Brom. He has possibly reverted to its Fulham days of managing- tactics that saw him send Fulham to the Europa League Final. Indeed, West Brom have lost only once since he took over, and that was against Chelsea. Tottenham on the other hand have won only once during that time. Without doubt, they were more concerned about progressing to the next stage of the Champions League.  If you are watching Tottenham v West Brom Live, you should see two different styles of play clash. Tottenham like to use the speed of Lennon, Pienaar and Bale on the wings. However, Bale might miss the game after sustaining a leg injury during midweek’s draw with Arsenal. West Brom on the other hand like to play short, precise and fast passes. This was possibly inherited from previous manager Roberto Di Matteo. The side played wonderfully under the Italian, but were very unlucky in a number of games. Maybe, the luck they were looking for came with Hodgson. Tottenham will not concede 4th place without a fight and West Brom will not go down so easily; you should definitely watch Tottenham v West Brom Live.

Sunderland v Wigan Live

April 21st, 2011 by Henry No comments »

After a wonderful start to the season which saw them eyeing the European spots, Sunderland have suffered an incredible dip in form since the sale of Darren Bent to premier league rivals, Aston Villa. While Sunderland chairman, Niall Quinn, is waiting for the end of season talks to see what went wrong, it is clear that Bent’s sale was detrimental to Sunderland’s form. It actually came at the wrong time for the side, which was then missing several key players through injury. Sunderland now find themselves just 5 points above the relegation zone, while Wigan are just 4 points behind them. This makes the Sunderland v Wigan a vital match in the fight against relegation.

While Sunderland have lost 9 of their last 10 games, despite a pretty impressive squad, Wigan have found some sort of form recently. They have lost only once in their last 4 games and have been inspired by the fine form of on loan midfielder, Tom Cleverley and their wing wizard Charles N’Zogbia, by far their most important player. Wigan’s recent form has enabled them to move out of the relegation zone for the first time in weeks. With points at stake, and both sides knowing they have to go for it, fans from both sides would be keen to watch Sunderland v Wigan Live this Saturday.

Sunderland Boss Steve Bruce status as a fan favorite has changed recently. Fans forget easily how he has transformed the club and has been able to attract some big names. It is evident Darren Bent’s departure has caused lots of damage to the club. Villa have certainly benefitted from the striker’s prowess in front of goal. His goals have seen them move clear of the relegation zone. This is probably why Sunderland are the ones getting closer to the drop. Unless things change fast for Steve Bruce’s side, Sunderland should be real candidates for the drop. One thing is sure though, if you are watching Sunderland v Wigan Live, it should be an open game, especially at the Stadium of Light, where fans will keep pushing their side right till the end.

Liverpool v Birmingham Live

April 21st, 2011 by Henry 1 comment »

Since Kenny Dalglish got back at the helm, Liverpool are yet to lose at Anfield. Meanwhile, Birmingham City go into the weekend having taken only 2 points from their last 3 games on the road. Both sides have lost twice in their last 6 games. With Everton hot on Liverpool’s heels and Birmingham not yet safe from relegation, Liverpool v Birmingham should be a game you should not miss.

Liverpool have been resurgent in recent weeks and now find themselves in a much more comfortable position. Indeed, Liverpool’s fine form has seen them beat the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and draw with Arsenal last weekend. If you are a Liverpool fan, I am sure you would be watching Liverpool v Birmingham Live on Saturday.

Birmingham visit Anfield at the back of a 3-1 drubbing at the hands of now second placed Chelsea. With relegation still a possibility for the Carling Cup Champions, McLeish will most likely put out a competitive and attacking side. Birmingham know how vital 3 points are at this stage, and this is possibly the number of points they actually need to take from their remaining 5 games to ensure they stay in the top flight for yet another season.

Liverpool v Birmingham should be a game of contrasting styles. Liverpool have become a much more adventurous and attacking side under Dalglish, while McLeish has sometimes been criticized for being too defensive. Liverpool v Birmingham Live coverage starts at 15:00 GMT. Although Liverpool are missing their talismanic captain, Gerrard and a couple of other key first team players, you would still expect them to get the better of Birmingham City. It is very difficult to see how Birmingham will be able to cope with an attacking Liverpool side led by Dirk Kuyt, Carroll and Luis Suarez.

New Contract For Wilkinson

April 21st, 2011 by Henry 1 comment »

Stoke City have signed up full back Andy Wilkinson for a new contract that will keep the player at the Britannia Stadium until 2014.

The 26 year old player is delighted to secure the contract, particularly as a local player who is a long time supporter of the club. Wilkinson made his debut in the 2003/04 season, and is now a regular fixture of the first team squad, being part of the side who destroyed Bolton Wanderers 5-0 on Sunday to secure a place at Wembley for the FA Cup Final against Manchester City.

Wilkinson said that the signing had “capped an amazing few days” for him, especially as a “local lad”.

Manager Tony Pulis expressed his pleasure at signing the defender, as he hopes to reward the players who have helped Stoke become a strong Premier League side over the previous years.

The Stoke boss said that the season “could go down as one of the most successful seasons in the club’s long history and at a time like this it is important that we look after those players who have helped get us where we are today”.

The Potters will focus on the Premier League this weekend, when they take on Aston Villa at Villa Park, and will hope to ride on their recent success to take the full three points away from the clash.

The real test for Stoke will come on the 14th of May however, when they will be the underdogs in their FA Cup Final encounter against Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City. Tony Pulis’ Potters will have everything to play for in the clash, with an FA Cup trophy being a rare moment of glory for the club, one that players and manager alike will be eager to secure.

Real Beat Barca To Claim Cup

April 21st, 2011 by Henry 1 comment »

Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid beat rivals Barcelona by one goal to nil to claim the Copa Del Rey last night.

In a tense encounter, winger Cristiano Ronaldo headed home the solitary goal in extra time, taking advantage of a wonderful cross from Angel Di Maria.

Barcelona’s usual free flowing passing style was stifled by the tactics of the wily Mourinho, whose team piled on the pressure to dispossess the Catalonian opposition using legal or illegal means. Barcelona struggled to play under the the pressure from the Madrid side, and failed to string together the fast passes and quick runs that the team is known for.

Despite the pressure, the sharp attacking quartet of Barcelona managed to get several chances on goal, with the fantastic Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta both firing deadly shots on goal, only to be denied by brilliant saves by Madrid keeper Iker Casillas.

The match was the second in a series of four matches between the teams over a period of just four weeks. Barcelona have been the favourite to come out of the encounters holding the spoils, but with a draw and a loss against the Jose Mourinho side so far, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola will certainly be concerned about the upcoming Champions League fixture due to take place on Wednesday 27th April.

The match brought Jose Mourinho his first trophy since taking over at the Spanish club at the start of the season, and means that the tactician has won a major footballing trophy in every year since 2003. The victory was also Real Madrid’s first win over Barcelona since May 2008, and they will hope to repeat last night’s triumph in the first leg of their Champions League clash next week, taking them one step closer to a place in the final.

The Portuguese manager expressed his confidence regarding the upcoming fixture, saying, “I came here to do a job and change the mentality of the club. We have started to do that and it’s satisfying – but it’s just the start.”

Chelsea Draw Closer To Red Devils

April 21st, 2011 by Henry 2 comments »

Chelsea’s diminished title hopes were reignited last night as the Blues managed a convincing 3-1 win over Birmingham City at home ground Stamford Bridge.

The win puts Chelsea on the same amount of points as rival London club Arsenal, although they sit in second place due to a slightly better goal difference. Title-holders Chelsea have suffered from a decrease in form this season, and have sat well below contenders Manchester United for most of the season. With just six points separating the teams now, Chelsea will be optimistic of retaining the Premier League title that they won so convincingly last season.

A brace for Florent Malouda and a smart strike from Salomon Kalou took Chelsea to 3-0 last night, with Birmingham only managing a consolation goal from a penalty taken by Larsson later on.

Chelsea had the lead after just three minutes in the match, and with none of the three goals scored by record signing Fernando Torres (who came on as a substitute), questions will again be raised about the Spanish striker.

The £50 million signing has now played 893 minutes without a goal for club or country, and is still yet to net his debut goal for Chelsea since signing in January from Liverpool. With the remaining games being absolutely crucial for the club, Carlo Ancelotti will have a tough decision to make on whether to include the out of form striker in the forthcoming games, despite his massive transfer price tag.

The match result puts some spice back into the title race, with the top three all now in stiff competition. The league leaders Manchester United are still yet to play both Chelsea and Arsenal, and Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson will be all too aware of the fact that slip ups in either match could potentially cost the Manchester club their record 19th title. Both Chelsea and Arsenal will be conscious of the fact that they need to beat the league leaders as well as turn out good performances in the rest of their remaining games if they are to have any chance of claiming the Premier League title this season.

Redknapp “Cant See Arsenal Doing It”

April 21st, 2011 by Henry No comments »

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has said that he does not think that Arsenal can overtake league toppers Manchester United to claim Premier League glory this season.

The Tottenham boss held Arsenal to a draw last night, in a thrilling encounter which has severely dented Arsenal’s hopes of claiming the ultimate prize in English football.

Arsenal have lacked killer instinct in the past this season, although this was no problem for them last night, as the goals came thick and fast in the first half, with the team leading by 3-1 at one point. However, Spurs came back to snatch a draw, and Arsenal’s title hopes will now have faded dramatically. Arsenal will have to take solace in a mediocre Manchester United performance at St James’ Park on Tuesday, and will hope for a repeat of such disappointing results if his side are to close the six point gap between them and the Manchester club.

After the clash, Spurs gaffer Redknapp said, “I can’t see Arsenal doing it”.

Chelsea have gone second in the table after their win and that six-point gap between Arsenal and United is going to be very difficult to overhaul.

“Big leads have been turned around before, it wouldn’t be the first time it has happened, and I don’t want to be disrespectful – but I can’t see them doing it.

“Yet Man United did not play that well against Newcastle on Tuesday. Chelsea might go on a terrific run and win every game.

“Man U have yet to play Arsenal and Chelsea so it’s not impossible.”

With just five games remaining, Arsene Wenger’s men now have it all to do, as they sit six points behind leaders Manchester United. However, United have difficult games yet to play, with a tough encounter at Chelsea and a visit to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, so fans could see the final matches of the season be a thrilling race for the title

Villa Boss Taken To Hospital

April 21st, 2011 by Henry 4 comments »

Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier was taken to hospital last night after being taken ill yesterday. The manager is said to be in a comfortable condition, and the fans and players will be wishing the boss a speedy recovery.

Houllier is expected to remain in hospital for the time being. The manager has suffered from health problems in the past , having undergone an emergency heart surgery in 2001, whilst holding the reins at Liverpool.

The boss has had a difficult season at the Midlands club after replacing Martin O’Neill, with Villa slipping into a relegation battle after a string of poor results in the mid season. The signing of new striker Darren Bent from Sunderland in the January transfer window was expected to help their chances in the league, and recent wins over West Ham United and Newcastle United have improved their league position as they hit the 40 point mark.

Fans were angered today after many well wishing online comments expressing get well soon messages for the manager were ‘disliked’ by fans of rival clubs. One said today that certain malicious posters should be ‘ashamed of themselves’.

Aston Villa are due to host Stoke City on Saturday, in a mid table Premier League encounter. The side are as yet uncertain on whether the French manager will take his place at the sidelines for the match, or whether it will be left to assistant manager Gary McAllister to take the helm.

Villa are set to be the favourite at the bookies, with the players predicted to put on a strong performance and bring home three points for the club and its hospitalised manager.

Spurs Come From Behind To Hold Off Arsenal

April 21st, 2011 by Henry 1 comment »

Tottenham and Arsenal shared the points in last nights gripping encounter at White Hart Lane.

The match was an important encounter for both sides, with Arsenal hoping to brush aside North London rivals Tottenham in order to keep their title dreams alive, which were given a boost by Manchester United’s frustrating draw the previous day. Tottenham on the other hand, were eager to catch up on fourth placed Manchester City and secure a Champions League place for next season.

The match was a classic derby from the outset, with both teams hitting the pitch with a thirsty desire to win. The excitement began early on, with a goal for Arsenal in the just the fifth minute of the game. Theo Walcott powered past the Spurs defence in a display of his trademark pace, before calmly slotting the ball past keeper Heurelho Gomes.

Tottenham responded quickly though, with midfielder Van Der Vaart scoring a spectacular strike just two minutes later, levelling the scores and leaving the match wide open.

Arsenal pushed on, displaying the killer instinct that had been lacking from many of their crucial performances this season, and hit back with slick goals from midfield dynamo Samir Nasri and the in-form Robin Van Persie.

Tom Huddlestone for Tottenham managed to pull one back for the home team on the cusp of the half time break, and brought and end to a first half which had been a thrilling match.

After the break, Arsenal pushed for the win. But, after substitute Aaron Lennon was brought down in the box by the opposition keeper, Spurs won a penalty which Van Der Vaart coolly converted to bring the scoreline to 3-3, a scoreline which was to be the final one.

The match displayed great performances from both teams, although both will be somewhat disappointed by the result. The Gunners missed out on a chance to close the gap between them and league leaders Manchester United, and Spurs missed out on a chance to draw level with 4th placed Man City.

Champions League Live

April 21st, 2011 by Henry 1 comment »

The second most watched football league in the world is probably the UEFA Champions League Live. The league brings together the world’s best four clubs from all the countries in Europe. Most of this clubs are the best rated and supported clubs in the world. At times the league also features small clubs that finish being top four in their leagues. This is one of the most spectacular leagues; probably the second most watched league after the World Cup.

The league, which was once known being the European cup, is still the strongest and most powerful league in whole Europe. The league’s name was changed in the early 90’s and the league had to start afresh. Until then, the league had proved to be a strong and successful league in the world. Before the rebreeding of the league, domestic clubs would tread for the title, but under the new reframed name there was enough space to accommodate up to 4 teams from all countries of Europe. These teams would either qualify through the domestic procedure or the normal Champions league qualification process.

Under the new rules and re-branded names, the league has seen much improvement and also increased participatory by European clubs and players. It has also given the other smaller clubs the push ahead to perform better in their domestic leagues, so that they get a chance to feature in this bigger, world’s best league. Actually domestic leagues have recorded a rise in participatory and performance by smaller clubs over the years. Some of these smaller teams that have improved in their performance are Tottenham Hotspurs of the English Premier League.

This club has shown a massive improvement in a span of five years. Some ten years back, the club was struggling to beat the relegation spot, but in 2010 the club qualified to participate in the Champions league, beating Liverpool out of the big four heavyweights of England. The club went on to shine in the Champions league by beating football giants like Inter and Ac Milan in the champion’s league. However, the club was defeated in quarter finals of the league by Real Madrid. This is one of the best success stories in the history of football.

With all the processes of qualifications and following league format, the rivalry almost the whole season of the standard European season. The most thrilling and action packed match of the league is the Champions league live finals that are mostly held in selected cities all over Europe. Every football fanatic and hooligan waits for this one moment to see the two best teams in Europe clash in an exciting match that no one wants to miss.

Many people who go to see the finals live book their tickets as early as the start of the season. Everybody wants to see the greatest final matches of Europe whether it’s a come back like the one that was experienced in the match, played between Liverpool and Ac Milan that Liverpool came from 3 goals down to win the cup in a penalty shoot out in 2008, or a last minute heartbreak like the one Bayern Munich suffered in the hands of Manchester united in 1999.

Still, this league is a competition for seasonal clubs only. The league is organized by a board also called Union of European Football Association which also manages the same and most of other leagues across Europe. The club that comes out superior is rewarded the most coveted and treasured trophy, named the European champions clubs cup.

The league, which is formally known as the European cup, was started by a French journalist who reported on sports. His name is L’Equipe. The league officially kicked off in the year 1955. After almost half a century, the league was upgraded to UEFA champion league in the 1992 – 1993 seasons. The competition brings together the best 32 top teams in Europe with each country offering 4 best teams of its domestic league. For many, they anticipate seeing the Champions league live finals. And this is what many look forward to at the kick-off of the league.

As for the winning side, they get a qualification ticket to play the winning club of South Copa Libertadores for the international cup. The first team that won the International cup was Real Madrid. Ever since there have been 9 other clubs that have won the tournament. Real Madrid maintained a consecutive win in 1955 – 1956 and 1959 – 1960.

One may wonder what makes champions league that special. It is special because the finest top clubs and football giants get to battle it out in this league. And only one winner emerges. The unlucky country that is left out of this great league is Liechtenstein due to the lack of a home league in this country. But all the remaining countries get a chance to participate. Another thing that makes this league unique and exciting is that football fans get to watch world best soccer players like Ronaldinho, Christano Ronaldo, Rooney and many more  in action and some times, against each other. This is something they don’t get to see in their domestic leagues. These awesome players spice up the league making it a multi billion industry for many investors.

Recalling some of the best Champions league live finals that UEFA has ever hosted is the match between Man United and Bayern Munich during the 1999 finals. Manchester united clinched a last minute goal that gave them a 2 -1 victory over their rivals Bayern. For many football lovers, this was quite a match and to others like the Bayern Munich fans, it was heartbreak at a hangman’s noose. So far, Real Madrid is the only team to have won the Title 9 times and 3 runners up followed by Ac Milan with 7 wins and 4 runners up. With time the league will have newer and younger generations of clubs winning the cup. Clubs like Tottenham Hotspurs of England and Schalke 04 of Germany are rapidly improving and very soon they will be featuring in Champions league live finals.
