Tottenham v West Brom Live

April 21st, 2011

Having experienced Champions League football and seen some of the world’s finest in the capital, Spurs fans will be hoping for the same again next season. However, qualification for Europe’s premier competition requires finishing in the top 4. Without doubt, Tottenham have enough quality and depth in their squad to be aiming for the Champions League qualifying positions. The problem for them has been the distraction of Champions League football, which has seen them rotate their side a lot. It is no surprise that Tottenham have lost ground on the top of the premier league mainly during the Champions League weeks. They have let leads slip away, conceded poor goals and even lost games you would not expect them to. Now, having been eliminated from the competition, they can now concentrate fully on the fight for 4th place. However, West Bromwich Albion is now a very different opposition under Roy Hodgson. Tottenham v West Brom will see two of the oldest managers in the league face each other.

Unlike during his time at Liverpool, Roy Hodgson is less defensive at West Brom. He has possibly reverted to its Fulham days of managing- tactics that saw him send Fulham to the Europa League Final. Indeed, West Brom have lost only once since he took over, and that was against Chelsea. Tottenham on the other hand have won only once during that time. Without doubt, they were more concerned about progressing to the next stage of the Champions League.  If you are watching Tottenham v West Brom Live, you should see two different styles of play clash. Tottenham like to use the speed of Lennon, Pienaar and Bale on the wings. However, Bale might miss the game after sustaining a leg injury during midweek’s draw with Arsenal. West Brom on the other hand like to play short, precise and fast passes. This was possibly inherited from previous manager Roberto Di Matteo. The side played wonderfully under the Italian, but were very unlucky in a number of games. Maybe, the luck they were looking for came with Hodgson. Tottenham will not concede 4th place without a fight and West Brom will not go down so easily; you should definitely watch Tottenham v West Brom Live.

Sunderland v Wigan Live

April 21st, 2011

After a wonderful start to the season which saw them eyeing the European spots, Sunderland have suffered an incredible dip in form since the sale of Darren Bent to premier league rivals, Aston Villa. While Sunderland chairman, Niall Quinn, is waiting for the end of season talks to see what went wrong, it is clear that Bent’s sale was detrimental to Sunderland’s form. It actually came at the wrong time for the side, which was then missing several key players through injury. Sunderland now find themselves just 5 points above the relegation zone, while Wigan are just 4 points behind them. This makes the Sunderland v Wigan a vital match in the fight against relegation.

While Sunderland have lost 9 of their last 10 games, despite a pretty impressive squad, Wigan have found some sort of form recently. They have lost only once in their last 4 games and have been inspired by the fine form of on loan midfielder, Tom Cleverley and their wing wizard Charles N’Zogbia, by far their most important player. Wigan’s recent form has enabled them to move out of the relegation zone for the first time in weeks. With points at stake, and both sides knowing they have to go for it, fans from both sides would be keen to watch Sunderland v Wigan Live this Saturday.

Sunderland Boss Steve Bruce status as a fan favorite has changed recently. Fans forget easily how he has transformed the club and has been able to attract some big names. It is evident Darren Bent’s departure has caused lots of damage to the club. Villa have certainly benefitted from the striker’s prowess in front of goal. His goals have seen them move clear of the relegation zone. This is probably why Sunderland are the ones getting closer to the drop. Unless things change fast for Steve Bruce’s side, Sunderland should be real candidates for the drop. One thing is sure though, if you are watching Sunderland v Wigan Live, it should be an open game, especially at the Stadium of Light, where fans will keep pushing their side right till the end.

Liverpool v Birmingham Live

April 21st, 2011

Since Kenny Dalglish got back at the helm, Liverpool are yet to lose at Anfield. Meanwhile, Birmingham City go into the weekend having taken only 2 points from their last 3 games on the road. Both sides have lost twice in their last 6 games. With Everton hot on Liverpool’s heels and Birmingham not yet safe from relegation, Liverpool v Birmingham should be a game you should not miss.

Liverpool have been resurgent in recent weeks and now find themselves in a much more comfortable position. Indeed, Liverpool’s fine form has seen them beat the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and draw with Arsenal last weekend. If you are a Liverpool fan, I am sure you would be watching Liverpool v Birmingham Live on Saturday.

Birmingham visit Anfield at the back of a 3-1 drubbing at the hands of now second placed Chelsea. With relegation still a possibility for the Carling Cup Champions, McLeish will most likely put out a competitive and attacking side. Birmingham know how vital 3 points are at this stage, and this is possibly the number of points they actually need to take from their remaining 5 games to ensure they stay in the top flight for yet another season.

Liverpool v Birmingham should be a game of contrasting styles. Liverpool have become a much more adventurous and attacking side under Dalglish, while McLeish has sometimes been criticized for being too defensive. Liverpool v Birmingham Live coverage starts at 15:00 GMT. Although Liverpool are missing their talismanic captain, Gerrard and a couple of other key first team players, you would still expect them to get the better of Birmingham City. It is very difficult to see how Birmingham will be able to cope with an attacking Liverpool side led by Dirk Kuyt, Carroll and Luis Suarez.

Manchester United v Everton Live

April 20th, 2011

Manchester United host Everton on the 23rd April 2011 and this is definitely a game both sides are looking forward to. The Red Devils come into the weekend, having won only 3 of their last six Premier League games.  On the other hand, the Merseysiders have found some sort of championship winning form, having won 4 of their last 6 encounters in the league and drawing the other 2 games. While those stats might be alarming for United fans, the team still has its destiny in its hands.

Since most of its strikers have been stricken with injuries, it seems David Moyes has finally found the right combination of players. With Saha’s season seemingly over, and Yakubu out on loan, Everton have been relying mainly on Beckford and other youngsters to lead the frontline. Meanwhile, the problem for United seems to be in midfield. Their defense is ever reliable as is their attack, with goals coming from different sources. However, their midfield remains the big concern for United fans. Anderson is just back from injury, but there are no signs of Fletcher coming back any time soon. Scholes will also be absent in the Manchester United v Everton game as he will be serving the second of his 3 match ban for a straight red in the Manchester derby in the FA Cup semi final last week. This leaves Sir Alex short in midfield for the weekend.

With an eye on next week’s Champions League semi final, United are likely to make a few changes to the side that drew at Newcastle on Tuesday. However, you would still expect them to defeat this resilient Everton side. United come into the game at the back of an impressive run at home in the league. They have so far won all but one match on home soil-a game against West Brom when they shot themselves in the foot. Everton will be looking for some similar luck on Saturday.

Aston Villa v Stoke Live

April 20th, 2011

It’s Aston Villa v Stoke live this weekend. Aston Villa fans will be hoping for an improvement when Aston Villa host Stoke at the weekend.  Stoke have been in fine form recently, when you consider the way this club has gone since moving into the top flight a couple of seasons ago. Stoke have been scoring plenty of goals recently while Villa have been at the wrong end of some big score lines. So, this should be a game where you should expect a goal galore.

Unlike previous seasons, Aston Villa are no longer contenders for a European birth for the coming season. This 2010/2011 season started badly and it seemed at one point, Villa would end up being relegated at the end of the season.  Under Martin O’Neill, Villa almost always finished in the top 7 positions. Since, the Irishman left the club at the start of the season, things have gone from bad to worse.  James Milner has since left the club to join big spending Manchester City and the fans were clearly disillusioned by the apparent lack of investment and ambition by the club’s owners.

The fact that Villa have been in the bottom half and around the relegation zone for most of the season forced the club’s owners to invest heavily in Darren Bent.  The former Sunderland striker did not disappoint since moving to Villa. Many see him as the one to revive Villa’s fortune. His current strike rate is just over a goal every 2 games and he has definitely scored some vital goals since joining the club.

Stoke will be heading into the game at the back of a historic and well deserved 5-0 win in the FA Cup semi final against Bolton last week. Scoring goals has not been a problem for Stoke with Kenwyn Jones and Walters getting on the score sheet.  However, both sides have been conceding goals. With points so important at this stage of the season, you should expect an open game in Aston Villa vs Stoke.

Blackpool v Newcastle Live

April 20th, 2011

It’s Blackpool v Newcastle live this weekend. No wins in the last 6 games means that Blackpool are real contenders for the drop this season. Their first season in the premier league is likely to last only for a few more games it seems.  Blackpool have conceded at least 2 goals in each of the recent matches and this is exactly where their main problem lies. Of course, they have been having some trouble scoring as well. However, one thing that is certain about Blackpool is that they are a very creative and energetic side with Charlie Adam pulling the strings in midfield.

Newcastle have been having some mixed results recently. However, a clean sheet in midweek against Manchester United at St James’ Park has revitalized the squad. With 40 points already this season, Newcastle are virtually saved from relegation after a season away from the top flight. They have probably learnt their lessons from 2 seasons ago when they were relegated.

Without doubt, Blackpool need the 3 points more than their visitors this weekend in the Blackpool v Newcastle match. Blackpool started the season brilliantly but have since been lurking around the relegation zone. Injury and suspension have restricted the participation of their inspirational captain, Charlie Adam in recent weeks.  Bloomfield Road will most definitely be fired up on Saturday, like on every occasion the newly promoted side hosts one of England’s historic sides. Newcastle are certainly not the team they used to be. But they can still attract a crowd and can be more than a nuisance on their day. Barton and co. have shown against Manchester United that you never know what to expect when you face Newcastle United. Both Newcastle and Blackpool have experienced a similar fortune when it comes to their home and away forms. Both sides have won more or less the same number of games that they have lost home or away. This one should be a close call, but with Blackpool in need of a win, you would expect them to attack Newcastle United right from the start.

Stoke City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Live

WATCH STOKE CITY V WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS LIVE ON WATCH-FOOTBALL.TV!
Available on 4 channels in the members’ area!

Stoke City v Wolverhampton Wanderers will get under way this week, as struggling Wolves travel to a mid table side who have shown strength at home this season.

Mick McCarthy’s Wolves side have battled in and around the relegation zone all season, and the manager will be desperate for his team to pull it back and avoid a drop down to the Championship next season.

It hasn’t been an easy season for anyone in the Premier League, with many teams further down the table upping their performances making the league a real battle this year. Wolves have been one of the casualties of this so far, although the team still have everything to play for with only a matter of a few points separating the bottom 6 teams.

Mick McCarthy will want to see his side pull together to claim 3 points from this vital fixture, and will know that every single point counts at this vital stage in the season.

Wolves will look to players such as Matt Jarvis and Kevin Doyle to lead out the team, and put the pressure on Stoke from the start.

However, the Wanderers will undoubtedly be lacking in morale, and not just because of their low position in the table. The team were comprehensively beaten by both Everton and Newcastle recently, at 3-0 and 4-1 respectively, and will really need to turn their run of poor form around here if they want to have any chance of remaining in the Premier League next season.

A drop to the Championship would be devastating for the club, and current stats do not bode well for their return to the Premier League the following season. Last season relegates Hull, Burnley and Portsmouth all sit low down in the Championship table, with virtually no chance of returning to the Premier League next season. The Wolves fans, players and manager will all have this in mind when they take on Stoke at the Britannia Stadium.

Stoke will have other plans however, and will feel confident that they can hold off the struggling Wolves side on their home turf. Stoke v Wolverhampton live will be a crucial game for Wolves, but Stoke will be difficult to beat at home.

Blackburn v Manchester City Live

WATCH BLACKBURN  V MANCHESTER CITY LIVE ON WATCH-FOOTBALL.TV!
Available on 6 channels in the members’ area!

Blackburn v Manchester City live at Ewood Park, as the end of the season begins to draw closer and the race heats up for the final finishing places in the table.

Embroiled in a tough battle near the top of the table all season, the Sky Blues will hope to brush Blackburn aside and bag the entire three points as the end of season battle to secure a Champions League place for next season draws nearer.

With some powerful firepower available at his disposal, City Manager Roberto Mancini will hope to brush aside mid table Blackburn with attacking options such as Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko, and the Argentine striker Carlos Tevez, who will hopefully be fit to feature in the starting line up at Ewood Park.

Blackburn have fared better at home this season than away, although their record in general has not been great, with 15 losses out of their first 32 games and a patchy goalscoring record. Following the sacking of manager Sam Allardyce, Rovers are using coach Steve Kean as an interim manager, who will be hoping to utilise some of the of the loan players available, such as Manchester United’s Diouf.

Kean will know he has a big task to complete, against a team drunk on ambitions having spent so much money overhauling their entire squad. City helmsman will be feeling the pressure get the results that will ensure he has a job next season, and will be hoping to take all the spoils from this game, whereas Blackburn, as a team near the relegation zone will certainly be hoping to hold the Sky Blues to at least a draw at home.

Blackburn v Manchester City will be a game that Mancini will be confident that his big money side can win. City have suffered some losses on the road this season, but with prodigious young England goalkeeper Joe Hart inbetween the sticks, they’ll be hoping to neutralise the home team’s threat and hit the slower moving Blackburn on the counter attack.

Bolton v Arsenal Live

April 16th, 2011

WATCH BOLTON V ARSENAL LIVE ON WATCH-FOOTBALL.TV!
Available on 17 channels in the members’ area!

This week, Bolton v Arsenal in another exciting Premier League match.

Arsenal are the most likely contenders to catch up with league leaders Manchester United and gaffer Arsene Wenger will still have hopes of stealing the title from under the Red Devil’s noses, to bag their first piece of major silverware for almost six years.

Arsenal will have plenty of hope that, despite being away from home, they will be able to walk away from this fixture with another three points onto the tally.

The Gunners have performed well this season, but have fell short in all competitions, losing out in the FA Cup and Champions League, as well as missing out on the Carling Cup by losing to Birmingham in the final. With a few slip ups in the league, Arsenal remain short of the top spot, a spot which they occupied very briefly earlier on in the season.

Arsene Wenger has seen his team perform excellently a number of times, only to give away the lead in vital games. The Londoners tight passing, possessive style has often looked impressive and controlled the game, but the team have sometimes lacked the killer instinct and self belief to finish off their opponents.

This match should see Arsenal frontman Robin Van Persie stepping up to the plate to provide the killer blow that Arsenal will need to finish off Bolton at the Reebok stadium. The striker has been in fine form this season, scoring freely whilst some of Arsenals other strikers have been off the boil. Wenger will also hope to wear Bolton down with the blistering pace of English winger Theo Walcott, who has also had his fair share of goals this season.

Bolton are not a side likely to give up easily however. The team have turned out some fantastic performances this season, proving themselves in some exciting encounters with the big teams as well as the lower table clubs. The home side will look to stalwarts such as Kevin Davies to provide the physical power needed to slow down Arsenal’s arguably weaker team in terms of physical power.

Bolton v Arsenal live at the Reebok stadium could possibly be a decider for Arsenal, who will feel they have to win the match in order to retain hopes of walking away with the league title.

Real Madrid v Barcelona Live

April 16th, 2011

WATCH REAL MADRID V BARCELONA LIVE ON WATCH-FOOTBALL.TV!
Available on 9 channels in the members’ area!

The second Champions League semi final match will kick off on the 27th of April, when Real Madrid v Barcelona live at the Bernabeu stadium.

The mouth watering cup tie will bring together the two giants of Spanish football, as well as many of Europe’s top footballing superstars.

Both teams won convincingly in their first leg of their last ties, with Real Madrid hammering Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 and Barcelona smashing Shaktar Donetsk by 5 goals to 1. However, both performed less well in the second leg, with narrow 1-0 wins over their respective opponents.

Colourful manager Jose Mourinho, who won the Champions League last year with Inter Milan, will be hoping to gain an advantage over the much hyped Barcelona side while at home, before making the dangerous trip to Nou Camp the following week. With players such as Mesut Ozil, Kaka , Sergio Ramos and the fantastic Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary manager will be confident that he has the players available to him to beat Barcelona on home turf.

Barcelona coach Pepe Guardiola will have other plans. With his Catalan side being frequently touted as the best in Europe, he will hope to dismantle his Spanish rivals over the two legs to earn a place in the final to win the trophy to confirm them as kings of European football.

The prodigious and much talked about young winger Lionel Messi will prove a major threat for Madrid, but Mourinho is a skilled manager who will have planned his strategies on how to deal with the Argentinian. The Portuguese manager will also have to find a way to stop Barcelona from playing their fluid passing style, something which many teams find difficult to control.

The match is one of four meetings between the two clubs over four weeks, a schedule which will prove taxing for the players and both managers, with the pressure on to succeed in all competitions.

Neutral supporters will relish the opportunity to witness a battle between the two biggest clubs in Europe, and Barcelona v Real Madrid in the second leg will prove to be a real clash of the titans.
